Families, Inc. (RFI) is a non-profit organization comprised
of a group of dedicated volunteers assisting Washington State
female offenders with their re-entry back into the community
and reunification with their families.
Just imagine being
homeless, no prospects for a job, no transportation, no medical
care and most important no resources to house or care for
your children. Women leaving prison face this situation everyday,
and even though they have paid their debt to society, they
are not entitled to assistance through social services. They
are unprepared for the stress of re-entry into a community
with many closed doors, causing almost half to return to the
lifestyle of crime and drugs and land back in prison.
RFI
works with eligible women to ease the stress of re-entry by
providing transition services described here.

Our
goal is to reduce the recidivism rate while providing women
offenders with HOPE and the OPPORTUNITY
to successfully re-establish themselves in the community. Currently,
the recidivism rate for women assisted by RFI is 19%, compared
to 46% for the general prison population. Our programs are making
a real difference in the lives of women who want to succeed.
